Tire Sizing Codes Are Easily Broken Down

Your tires are sized specifically to the wheels on your vehicle. So when shopping for a new set it is important to understand how to read the sizing code so that you know what it is that you are looking for.

Reading this code can be intimidating if you have never been shown how it breaks down, but once you know how to read it you will find that it is not that complicated. You will also be able to read any tire size on any other tire that you come across.

To give an example, if a tire sizing code reads as P265/70R17 then that code breaks down as follows:

  • P - Passenger vehicle type tire.
  • 265 - Tire width. This tire is 265 millimeters wide.
  • 70 - Aspect ratio. This tire's height would be 70% of its width.
  • R - Radial construction.
  • 17 - Wheel diameter. This particular tire would fit on a 17" wheel.

So as you can see there is really not that much to it once you get the code broken down. If you have any other tire related questions then call or visit our service center here at Wagner Kia of Shrewsbury in Shrewsbury, MA.
