Think a car needs to be a hybrid to offer EV-like emissions? Many automakers in the market have led consumers to believe the answer is yes. Wagner Kia of Shrewsbury would like to point out that some brands (i.e., Kia) are making a point of breaking that rule. Take the 2012 Rio, for example. Emitting less than 85g/km, it's cleaner than any other non-EV available on the market. And, with 30 mpg city/ 40 mpg hwy, it competes with hybrids in terms of efficiency, too. The only difference is that the new Kia Rio is available to drivers without a premium or hybrid price tag. Starting at just $13,400, it's actually quite a steal. And it isn't an exception within Kia's lineup, either.

Rather, Kia has dedicated a lot of time and resources to ensuring its entire lineup is not only fun to drive, efficient, attractive and reliable, but also very environmentally friendly. And in assessing the innovative technologies Kia is integrating into models across their entire lineup, UK magazine What Car? has decided the South Korean automaker worthy of their prestigious Low Carbon Award.

Does this mean Kia is turning a new leaf? It might seem that way. But, in fact, this isn't the first time Kia has been recognized by What Cars?. The Kia Picanto (not currently available in the U.S.) was distinguished at the magazine's 2011 Green Awards, this past summer as well.
