Constructing a production plant for new Kia vehicles smack on the border of two Southern states has its advantages. When it comes to Kia's West Point, Georgia plant those advantages would include the dealership network and support across both Georgia and its neighbor to east, Alabama, also known as the "Yellowhammer" state.
The Georgia/Alabama community here is so strong and interconnected in fact that Kia's leadership wants to focus on this area for the long term. Over the next 16 years, Kia will invest $1.6 billion in West Point automobile manufacturing.
Governor Nathan Deal, said recently of the impact the plant has on his state of Georgia, "Kia has an exceptional track record of growth in our state. The wave of economic impact created by Kia's presence in Georgia goes far beyond the 10,000-plus jobs the company and its suppliers have created and will underpin the region's economy for generations to come."1
Kia's investment will be put towards increasing the number and quality of the machines and equipment used to turn out models such as Kia Optima and Kia Sorento. Of course, these models are very popular among U.S. drivers.
