It's important to admit when you're wrong; even more so to take affirmative steps to correct that wrong doing. With these two honorable values in mind, Kia and its sister brand move forward in rectifying their resent fuel economy faux paus.

After announcing a mistake in their mileage ratings for a handful of new Kia models, company officials promised a reimbursement plan of sorts was on the way. Well, Wagner Kia of Shrewsbury is more than pleased to hear that Kia is keeping that promise and has divulged details for what drivers can expect to receive as compensation for the inconvenience.

First off, Kia confirmed that the following models were in fact affected by the slip-up: the Optima Hybrid, Rio, Sorento, Soul, and Sportage. While the sticker mileage of most autos was only 1-2 mpg off from the actual fuel economy, Kia promises to pay the difference and then some.

As stated by Green Car Reports, "The reimbursement will be based on the period over which the owners have had the vehicles, and reflect the gas they would have saved had the cars hit the stated mileage - plus 15 percent."1

In order to ensure that affected Kia vehicle owners have enough time, the reimbursement period will remain open until the close of 2013. What's more, drivers can have their odometers read and be compensated accordingly right from their dealership.
